Artist Needed for Alternative Esoteric Gnostic Children’s Bible

Artist Needed!

Do you draw comic-book or cartoon-style people? We need a few cartoon-style or fantasy-style illustrations done for a children’s Alternative Herstory/History Bible my daughters and I are creating as we go along in our Christian homeschool curriculum.

The Mystery School once had a young-lady who can draw comic-book figures but she moved to Spain or something and I can no longer get a hold of her. Here’s what she drew for us ten years ago “back in the day” — when our Mystery School was still being converted to online format.  I have always loved the way she did Jesus’ face. She was 16 years old at the time, very gifted.

My daughters are ages 5 to 13 and we are writing this book of alternative “complete” Bible stories together. I told them we could even publish the end result via Lulu or another self-publishing outfit. They want to illustrate it with scenes from the lives of missing Bible ladies/girls (such as the mysterious Norea, first daughter of Adam and Eve, who appears in Gnostic writings, but was edited out of the Old Testament) and plucky children like the pair of twins born the day the Ark landed. Don’tcha know, Noah’s daughter-in-law was pregnant when she got on the ark and had boy-girl twins the very day they disembarked. The twins received rainbow names because the rainbow was in the sky when they were born. The boy was Indigo-Elam and the girl was named Scarlet. Indigo-Elam is mentioned in the Bible as Elam, a word meaning “Nation”, but the girl-twin is not. We tell the story of their childhoods, games they played, journeys they made such as to the spot where the Garden of Eden once stood. No, they did not marry each other but one of their (younger) cousins. We tell those stories too, all the while drawing from Hebrew tradition and folklore to make the OT stories far more fascinating to children.

Here is another example of the simple style of artwork my daughters respond to (presumably other children will like it too). It’s basically comic book or coloring book style figures. Look at the bottom two images of Sarah, wife of Abraham. The top picture on this page is a classical painting, ignore that one (altho it’s very pretty painting of Sarah as a girl) but the bottom two are sort of comic-book / children’s illustration style — just what we are looking for. I can provide other links of art we like if you are interested.

We’re telling Sarah’s story alongside Abram’s in our alternative Bible stories book. Her name is Hebrew for “Princess” and she was once “taken” by Pharoah, so great was her beauty. As the website above says, “She is the first woman of the Bible to be spoken of as ‘a fair woman to look upon.’ She is also the first to teach us about how the power of faith can deliver us.” Girls like these kinds of stories and are tired of seeing Sarah shown only as a grandma-having-a-baby in most illustrations. They want to see and read about her when she was their age, when she got married, etc. They want to hear about other children like Seth, Son of Eve, like Enoch, a unique boy with an awesome mother.

Everything from the Mark of Cain and Satan, to Eve’s necklace (that mysteriously survived the Flood), Adam’s magikal alphabet, to Job’s secret matriarchal family legacy, to why God and Mother-God created Earth in the first place, including the Plan to fix humanity post-Fall is explained — all for children.

We wrote a cool story about Enoch as a boy, revealing how it was he came to “walk with God”, his teen years, the girl he met and married, her decision to leave her village and go out to live with him in the outlands because Enoch built their house himself right near Eden’s Gate.  My girls’ favorite part of that story explains why Methuselah (Enoch’s son) ended up being the longest lived person. While the young Mrs. Enoch was expecting Methuselah she went into early labor. Enoch, who had already been “walking with God” took her to the site where the Garden of Eden once lay  hoping to pray to God and Mother-God and help his wife and unborn child. Eden had been taken back up to Heaven a few centuries after Adam and Eve left it. Enoch and his wife lived next to the now flat spot of white sand where nothing had yet grown. The couple went out onto the magical white-sand site the night she went into early labor. Suddenly, the moon came out and so did God-the-Mother and God-the-Father, just like they had once walked with Adam and Eve at the same place. God-the-Mother asks if they would like to see the spot where the Tree of Life once stood and led them to it. The white sand seemed to glow there. Mrs Enoch stumbled, doubling over with another premature labor pain. As she caught herself going down into a sitting position on the sand, one hand touched the ground palm flat where the Tree of Life once stood. She felt something go up her arm and into her body. The labor stopped and the baby Methuselah was born healthy 3 months later. My girls make me tell that story over and over. It leads to other stories, Enoch’s Village grows up around their house, the lost Book of Enoch is stored in the house and given to a daughter to preserve when Enoch “ascends” to heaven (the bible says “god took him”). Eventually Noah is born in the same house since Enoch is his great-great-grandfather.

In this way we are adding a bunch of “forgotten” and left out family stories into the traditional Bible stories. We would love to have an illustrator.

If you are an artist or know someone who is, do please send me some examples of your artwork. I can offer major tuition credits with the Seminary and Mystery School and of course your work will be fully credited.

Sincerely,

+Katia Romanoff

Cannibalistic Jesus-Religion Ended Human Sacrifice, Aztecs, Slavery, etc

Tonight I helped my 13-year-old daughter compare the Aztecs to the Mayans. She is studying for a test in our homeschooling curriculum. Both the Aztecs and Mayans, though centuries apart were in Central America, had large cities, wealth, and accurate 365-day calendars. Both had nobles, warriors and priests. And both had slaves — lots of them. The Aztecs had human sacrifice.

Daily human sacrifices were made in major Aztec cities “to make the sun rise” each day. My daughter’s 8th grade history book says 10,000 people per year were sacrificed. I had no idea that many native Central American people had their hearts cut out by their own people, to be held aloft still beating at the top of one of those stone Temples. This was done in what is now Mexico from the 1300’s until the 1500’s when the Spanish conquerors put a stop to it (by killing and/or enslaving the killers). The Spanish killed the priestly class, or most of it, and any nobles who resisted them, and took control of the vast slave population. Ten or more surrounding tribes had helped the Spanish take over, so sick they were of their family members being collected by the Aztec theocracy government to feed the blood-thirsty savage gods of Tenochtitlan. The blood bath had been going on for centuries before the Spanish arrived.

Some writers today bemoan that 50,000 Aztecs were killed by the Spanish during the takeover. Those deaths were largely the Aztec army, priests and nobles who were benefiting from this perverse demented human-eating religion-government. We always here how evil those Spanish were, those white men from dastardly Europe, to “invade” and kill all those sweet, wise and noble natives. Yeah, right. Tens of thousands of native Central Americans fought under the Spanish officers’ leadership. There were only so many Spanish present. It was an overthrow of something evil and sick which had persisted for centuries. Yes, the Spanish wanted gold and glory out of it, and their own priests came in the wake of the take-over with the ultimate religion of human sacrifice: Christianity. The rest is history – Central and South America are earth’s current strongholds of Christianity, far more fanatically devoted to the Faith from Jerusalem than Europe, Greece and Turkey, the cradles of Christianity. They say the next Pope will probably be a South American.

Tangent: The news says 50,000 descendants of the Aztecs still living in the homeland (Mexico, in other words) have died very bloody deaths in the past few years in the drug wars. It’s almost as tho that ground down there is thirsty for blood. Gives one a creepy feeling that something supernatural is down there…somethin’ blood-thirsty and not-so-human. There have been positive supernatural events in Mexico and South America, too, as we know – Our Lady showed herself in Guadalupe and millions make pilgrimages across that ancient blood-thirsty land to see Her.

Some Catholic missionary-priests in the 1500s wrote that the native Mexicans (Aztecs who survived the takeover) embraced Christianity with unbridled zeal, almost a desperate grabbing on to it. The reason? Because they would be killed if they didn’t? Were the brown-frocked and black-frocked holy men from Europe converting them by the sword out in their sun-fried extremely remote villages? No. The people willingly, hurriedly, desperately converted because for ONCE, for once, they could embrace a religion that did not daily demand their children, their youth, to die meaningless deaths. The ultimate human sacrifice was paid when a god came to earth and was sacrificed instead of just a human. It happened in the land across the sea in the center of the earth, taught this Christianity. This sounded GREAT. Yes, they thought, we can get into this! And women even have souls. The women probably realized they were finally considered almost equal to men, which although they wouldn’t probably know it, is unlike every other religion on the planet. How cool is that?

The last human sacrifice took place in South America in 1974 and some wonder if that’s just the last one we know about. The victim was slain and his blood allowed to gush onto the ground in order to feed some angry god, said the village. They believed like their ancestors that the god would feed them back by blessing their crops that year. Ugh. We can’t get this out of our system. Think of India sacrificing wives, every single wife on her husband’s funeral pyre up until the British conquest.

Think of Perseus in Greek legend saving a human sacrifice victim – about to be “fed” to a monster-son of a god. Princess Andromeda was chosen as the offering after thousands of other virgins had failed to appease the monster. Human sacrifice was so very common to our ancestors.

There is evidence of human sacrifice in Northern Europe, even among the Druids where we just wish we didn’t have to talk about it. Bogs have been uncovered with the victims ceremonially bound. Ick. Freedom from the practice of human sacrifice is another reason why Christianity may have caught on so well. We are often told it caught on because women were treated equally at least spiritually, since just like the men, they would be eligible for “salvation”, “theosis”* – and souls. (*Theosis means the process of becoming divine and is practiced today in the Eastern Orthodox Churches of Greece, Russia, etc)

The ancient world of the Bible gives us angry gods like Molech who demanded babies and toddlers daily be thrown into their furnaces. Hebrew scholars teach a fascinating theory that because it gave up human sacrifice early, Judaism was different from all the other religions of the ancient Middle East. This is why Judaism survived, and the other nasty children-killing virgin-killing religions became history. The people GLADLY embrace “decent” life-friendly religions. Okay, Judaism has its flaws, oppressive patriarchy, sexism, misogyny, lack of the Sacred Feminine, etc., but those are social products of the ancient dog-eat-dog illiterate world and are far more palatable than giving up your kid to the sacrifice collectors! This is why Judaism became the Religion of the Book, changing the world forever and spawning the other two world religions, Christianity and Islam (the Koran has Jewish and Christian bible characters all thru it. Mohammed got his inspiration from both Judaism and Christianity, and all three are collectively called the Desert Religions.) The proof of Judaism changing the ancient practice once and for all is right in the Old Testament. The Hebrew god finally got sick of this human sacrifice crap and decided to send a message, a special message. The spot where the message was delivered is the current Temple Mount so fought over by Muslims and Jews. He told Abraham to offer his boy as a human sacrifice as was his “right” as a god to ask. But the whole exercise was to teach a substitution practice – I PREFER RAMS! said God. Just like the Cain and Abel story taught – give me roast beast, not vegetables, and don’t kill your brother, just give me an animal. Satisfy your blood lust by offering animals to me. It’s worth mentioning that the priests and their families would eat the sacrifices at the Temple and earlier at the Tabernacle – these animals were not just wasted as in Rome and Greece when bulls and large animals were slaughtered, although even in those places the meat was not always wasted. Animal sacrifice could be thought of as religious slaughtering of livestock for food. Butchers who were priests.

God’s instruction to offer him only animals and not humans is kind of esoteric, and even though the great Temples were built on the spot, people today, and possibly in Jesus’ time didn’t quite get that message. But Jesus’ story really spelled it out. This time a god was sacrificed. So no more humans necessary – no more animals either for that matter, since shortly after Jesus’ lifetime the animal sacrifices at the Jerusalem Temple ended once and for all. The kosher slaughterers still follow the rules for killing animals today, and they say certain ancient-sounding prayers when they kill the animals, but the large scale showy sacrifice to “appease” hungry gods and “pay” for sins/mistakes/offenses is no more.

We forget why our ancestors glommed on to the religion of the dying god. That whole “paid the price with his life for all of us” sounds like such a cliché to our ears. That’s ‘cause we weren’t there caught up in a world of blood-lusty perverted “clergy” coming into our towns and stealing our people on a regular basis. It was like paying a tax for the people in the Aztec cities and towns right up until the Spanish conquest.

Our DNA was there, even if “we” weren’t, so perhaps we can “know’ this (know with gnosis) liberating teaching and make it part of our ancestral heritage to be proud of. They were a violent perverted blood-lusty rapacious marauding sexist woman-abusing, child-abusing bunch of pigs, our ancestors, but by god they were the first to see the light and stop daily killing the weak for religious “sport”.

Wars still rage in battlefields and inner cities, but no blood-soaked stench-oozing altars sit in OUR town-squares. I can’t even imagine what it must have felt like to walk by the funeral burning grounds in India as a young woman, knowing that was where you would die someday. And die a very unpleasant manner, being burned alive. What the hell is the matter with some people/cultures? Don’t get me started on the Chinese and what they did to THEIR women. Heck, they kill their female babies today even before they are born. Sonograms to tell the sex of the child are illegal now in China in order to stop the crazy population imbalance where men and boys outnumber girls almost THREE to one. Most Chinese men will never marry now, due to their culture’s stupid hatred of females. At least they are no longer sacrificing girl-babies as much as they used to. And it was never done to feed angry gods, so China’s story shouldn’t probably be in this discussion. They weren’t feeding their gods or blood-lust, killing daughters is done merely to feed egos who think “a son” is the only kind of child capable of “fulfilling” honor (aka the human ego). Dishonoring themselves by killing innocents all to obtain family honor by having a son…

Christianity had a lot to offer thru history. It came with war and pestilence. The pestilence being European illnesses that wiped out American native peoples like the Chinese-born Bubonic Plague wiped out one third of Europe a hundred years previously. Christianity didn’t cause those wars and pestilences to spread – – human greed did. Priests came in the aftermath of conquest to spread Christianity with their fanatical zeal, but good for them. They saved thousands more natives and gave them something to believe in that was at least mildly fulfilling to the beleaguered short-life-spanned souls, and more than mildly (yes, wildly) liberating from the vile sacrifice practices of the ancestors.

I grow weary of the propaganda that European people once had slaves. YES. They sure did. Romans had millions of slaves, Greeks, even the Norse had a few. But the Western Humans were the first to free slaves. The 2% that owned them were finally overruled by the rest of the population and made to give up the vile practice. But it is still going on in Africa, Eastern Europe and India. Sex slavery and hard labor slavery are alive and well. So if you are ticked at European slave-owners, at George Washington and Thom Jefferson for owning slaves, go scream at their graves, disturb their rest. But they are dead people. Nobody owns slaves in this part of the world any more. Better to go and rail at the slave owners who are STILL buying and selling humans TODAY. Do something about slavery instead of guilt-tripping our teenagers with social studies textbooks that imply the west was the only segment of humanity to own slaves. Puh-leese. The practice came from the East and from Africa where TO THIS DAY they still sell their own people into slavery. Yes, in 2011 it is happening. And not just for sex slaves (the worse kind, imo) but for hard labor. Google it. See the faces of those forlorn African girls sold by their own fathers, uncles, aunts, into slavery to harsh masters and mistresses hundreds of miles away from their hometowns. They have to live in closets or dirt huts on their master’s property and work 18 hour days with not ONE day of school, not ONE kind word, and only one meal a day. Shut up about people 200 years, 300 years ago owning slaves. My ancestors were Europeans but none of them owned slaves. Slaveowners were only 2% of the population in the USA and Europe and they are ALL DEAD. it ended in the 1800’s. If you really hate slavery and are out to help free some, go on a crusade, on a mission, to help those crying out for your help. Africa , Pakistan and India are calling your name. Begging for you to give a damn and go and help. Don’t forget the sex brothels of Eastern Europe and the Far East, while you’re at it.

My daughter’s history book says yes, the Aztecs had slaves but the victims were mostly — it uses the apologetic vague weasel word “mostly” — criminals and prisoners of war. I have to say criminals make sucky slaves. They kill you and or your family in your sleep, kill other slaves, fight, batter, burn crops and barns, cause mayhem, dissension in the ranks, are impossible to keep a lid on, impossible to get quality work out of. The criminal mind cannot be governed, ruled, it’s in its genetics from childhood to be first oppositional, and then to be criminal. Just ask the kindergarten teachers of future criminals. It’s in the DNA, sadly. So nope, criminals were not slaves, unless you mean a few one-time offenders who should not be called criminals in the first place. Maybe a few hardened “real” criminals have worked successfully for a short time in chain-gangs, but only in chains can you get a criminal to work. Chain-gangs are short-lived – it’s hard on the body – with high turnover due to death and not much profit possible. The slave-minders are so worn out from flogging and chaining and getting them to work, that they say to hell with this and get me some docile obedient personalities to enslave or I will do this work myself. It’s easier on the overseer. Most slaves were (and still are) normal people stolen or sold from other villages and tribes. Prisoners of War says the textbook – as if that makes it okay. Yeah, they fought a war with their neighbors those Aztecs during the 200 years of their empire, so making slaves of the POWs and their entire families/villages is acceptable.

Man am I glad to be born in the West. The West is definitely Best, as the saying goes. Or at least we can say the West is the luckiest. Sheesh. Christianity has its failings, its many sins, and its lackings such as God-the-Mother and the Bride of Christ, but it kinda beats the competition hands down. I follow the esoteric versions of the Faith, but I am glad for the existence over the years of our exoteric Christian cousins. Even if you are a misogynist lot we’re hoping to reform, you are no longer a violent lot.

Back to my original reason for writing/blogging tonight. It came to me while helping Tia with her Aztec assignment that maybe Yeshua had one more reason to submit to death. He allowed his death to be turned into a public “human sacrifice” because he knew it could turn into an excuse to stop human sacrifice (and animal sacrifice was stopped by early Christians) the world over. He could have died of old age after coming to earth as a human to deliver the amazing news, the awesome message that we are all part of a Plan for Freedom. He knew when he was born of a woman he would die like everyone else, because bodies do that. He could have insisted on a calm private death. But he went along with Satan’s plan and turned his arrest and execution into a good thing. I bet the Evil One hates how the Good does that, turns such a victory for the Darkside into a liberating doctrine for millions of humans. Not only did Yeshua offer up himself in exchange for letting his students and family go free – and to keep them all from being killed while authorities searched for him – but he gave the world a story, an excuse, to free millions and millions of people from the horrors of the culture of human sacrifice. His death was 1500 years before the Aztecs (modern Mexicans) would grab onto Christianity in a desperate attempt (which turned out to be successful) to escape the vengeful daily murdering state religion of their ancestors. Others before the Aztecs found liberation in Christianity, even some of those supposedly converted by the sword.

I am reminded of the book What’s So Great About Christianity, but its author Dinesh D’Souza didn’t ponder Yeshua’s possible inner decision-making process on what might become of his life, what religion might be founded out of his decision to be viciously executed. Yeshua decided to be like Isaac on the Temple Mount, or rather be like the ram in the thicket. His story (or Paul’s interpretation and spread of it!) created an excuse to stop ritual murder. It created a rather gruesome-themed religion, true. All those life-sized and neck pendant blood-dripping crucifixes adorned with his corpse creep me out. Children are not fond of them either. Christianity is “blood-thirsty” when the people eat the god daily, and drink his blood during the eucharist. We eat god instead of the god eating the people.

Hey, this dying-god cannibalistic religion put an end to human sacrifice and offers more than a little satisfaction to a billion people. Even the Chinese are grabbing onto Christianity with a fervor not seen since Roman times. Chinese pastors are this very decade, this very year, being beheaded for passing out Bibles in China or simply for having “unauthorized” churches meet in their houses.

There must be something to Christianity that satisfies so much among persecuted populations. Something is there at the heart of it, a mystery…

So there, say I, to the Christian-bashers, and don’t get me started on the Jew-bashers. Y’all need to go find the real enemy.

Dream Interpretation: Deceased father shows up at wedding

I lost my Father in February to a massive heart-attack. I was at my Mother’s visiting with her and we were talking about different memories we had with my Dad. I was wearing a very bright blue shirt that day. I had a dream that night and we were at my wedding, my Father had already passed on and we were still waiting for him to show up. My Dad was alive for my wedding, which made this dream all the more strange to me. I was standing at the altar and all of a sudden my Father was there and he was wearing the same color shirt that I had on that day and he walked over to me, put his arms around me and told me he loved me. I then woke up and sat up in my bed. I do not remember my dreams very often but, this one seemed so real it had me quite shaken. I very vividly remember the shirt he had on and realized that it was the same color I had worn that day. I would be very curious to know what your feelings are about this dream.

P.S. I think it may be important for you to know that I had been estranged from my parents for the last nine years.
Sincerely, Michael

Wearing of the same shirt symbolizes something quite profound: that your Dad is still alive, he is alivein you. Children are the immortality of their parents, and genetically speaking we *are* our parents, grandparents, ancestors. He is “one” with you. Your dream also reminds me of the famous Bible verse, “I and the Father are one.” The wedding means a huge family milestone, a new stage of existence, and above all a union. You say for nine years you had been estranged from your parents but then had a reunion – reunited–  and your father passed away earlier this year. I believe he came to you from the Beyond in order to deliver a  very important message to you — reassurance that he loves you — because your separation of nine years was so long, he wanted to be sure you knew things were still good between the two of you. And he brought the symbolic message that he is still alive in you – his DNA is singing in your veins and every cell. Feel his presence. Your subconscious certainly senses his presence and therefore helped you “connect” with him and “receive” that message. Very awesome dream!

Thank you very much for your input, one of the questions I am always asking myself, is if my Father still loved me…so I hope your interpretation is correct. I hope he knows that I have never stopped loving him. My sister told me he would always drive by my house hoping to see me and talk to me, and I remember seeing him several times but, he never stopped, I guess stubbornness is something he and I have in common, as I used to do the same thing. I am his oldest and we are very much alike. What you say about the wearing of the same color shirt, makes sense to me. I originally thought that he was letting me know that he was watching over me by letting me know that he knew what I was wearing that day. I have to be honest, I was never a big believer in dream interpretation and the paranormal but, this dream has had me re-thinking that logic. My wife is a big fan of yours and has two of your books and I used to tease her about it…whenever I had a dream that I could remember, she would look up the keywords and try to interpret it for me and I would not take it very seriously.

Divine Mother God new blog

Check out the new blog Divine Mother God of my long-time pal and "soul-sister" Madria Pamela+

“Ye that are weary with the world, ye that are lonely, ye that have suffered hardship, that have suffered hurt, come, gather about Me and be enfolded in My mantle. —The Sacred Myths and Rites of the Madrians The Sacred, edited by Philip P. Jackson. The Mantle verse 1.

It’s hard to describe the beauty and the personal meaning of the liturgy in this era where so many churches have drastically changed their manner of worship in order to suit modern sensibilities. Some see these changes as good. Others do not…

Dream Interpretation: Purse taken, jewels left instead

Here’s my dream…I ran to go catch this bus…it was almost dawn….and the bus number was 113…someone at the bus stop said to me “well, aren’ t you going to get on?” I said “No, it’s too early” and the bus was just sitting there for a while, empty, with the lights on inside…..and in the same night, I also dreamt my purse and wallet were gone…but then I realized they left the wallet behind and just took the purse, and I found jewels/jewelry with my things. These jewels/jewelry didn’t belong to me, but were apparently very valuable. Again in the same night, I dreamt a friend who loves to cook and bake but not by trade…was cooking food …..and invited me to go see what she was making….I haven’t seen this friend in probably over a year…. Thank you, Antonella Yasuna

Some say the number 113 is a warning regarding the end of the world, others believe it is a good luck number that “follows” some people around. In esoteric lore 113 symbolizes sacrifice for the survival of others. You ran so you wouldn’t miss a pre-dawn bus, but you never got on. There is a group or “crowd” you don’t want to miss out on, yet you want the timing to be just right. You don’t want to jump into a situation too early for fear of losing your identity (purse and wallet) and getting lost in the crowd. You don’t want to be just another number, but you also don’t want to miss out on an opportunity. You fear the time is just not right for this “journey” in the darkness before the dawn. You had a brief identity crisis recently but it wasn’t as bad as you originally feared (wallet was not stolen after all). In fact, you lost your purse – your normal financial practices – only to find it replaced with other financial gains, the jewelry. It’s almost like you lost on the broader stock market in the recent crisis, but somebody bought you some gold! Or else you are handling someone else’s finances or valuables in life. Whatever your financial situation is, you feel the valuables do not belong to you, but yet somehow you are responsible for protecting them. What people, situations or things are you protecting or “stuck with” or handling that are not technically yours? What values showed up uninvited in your life after some kind of  loss? You also have an invitation to join a new venture – see what’s cookin’ in someone else’s “kitchen”. Are you going to take this person up on their offer? The person could also be another aspect of your own personality. Have you come up with an offer for yourself, but your other self is afraid to accept it?  Your old friend with culinary skills (nurturing skills) symbolizes a person, career or other situation that is making you an offer you don’t want to refuse, but also have a fear about timing. We know it is an informal or semi-professional offer because the friend is not a professional baker/cook but is just as good as one. The overriding theme here is you trying to work with the numbers in your life, from finances to timing. Perhaps you are weighing whether to start your own business or change your work situation. Very intriguing!

Dream Interpretation: Interruptions thwart amazing meal

I have had the same recurring theme in my dreams for many years. I will sometimes dream that I am preparing to indulge in the most amazing meal. I can see and smell everything that is arranged in front of me. But each time I have never gotten past fixing my plate. There are always a thousand random things getting in the way of my actually getting to sit down and enjoy my meal. This last one I had, for example, first I had my two nieces come crying that they were hungry so I put my plate down to fix theirs. Then I would always forget something — like a fork, a condiment or whatever, that would stop me from eating my meal. By the time I finally get everything settled and resolved and get ready to chow down, I WAKE UP!! I can literally feel my frustration in the dream, so much so that I wake up angry! What is this all about?! Please help me…it’s “eating” me up!!   – Monica

This is a very fascinating dream theme that comes to people who are unable to nurture themselves for one reason or another. You often put the needs of others before your own. Your outer life is so full of distracting obligations and events that you never have time to “feed” the inner you. You know how to take care of yourself, you know what needs to be done, but every time you start to focus on yourself something comes along to interrupt. Are you too polite to someone that is taking advantage of  you? Are you enabling an unhealthy relationship? Are you a pushover when you need to stand up for yourself. Ask, “How am I not nourishing and nurturing my inner self? What distractions are keeping me from closing the deal on something?” Also ask yourself what in waking life makes you angry and frustrated. Answering these questions will give you a clue as to what things are triggering this dream and thus what areas you need to work on first. Good luck and be sure to let us know the details if you get this dream again.

This interpretation is dead on! Especially when you said this:
“You know how to take care of yourself, you know what needs to be done, but every time you start to focus on yourself something comes along to interrupt. Are you too polite to someone that is taking advantage of you? Are you enabling an unhealthy relationship? Are you a pushover when you need to stand up for yourself…”

I am EXTREMELY passive-aggressive and until I get fed up, I am usually having my kindness taken for weakness. I knew that it had something to do with some type of obstacles (I am a self-proclaimed junior dream interpreter myself lol), but I just wanted more clarity and specifics. Thank you so much for helping me put things into perspective!

The arrogance of Spiritual but not Religious

Yeah. I agree with Ken Wilber here (below). I have always thought we can be both spiritual AND religious. Why does religion get a bad rap — well, we all know why, because “sellers” and “enforcers” of organized religion have abused humanity.  But religion, RELIGION itself is way cool. It’s my field, so okay, I am biased. In our seminary application process we always require new minister candidates to write the story of religion AND spirituality in their life from childhood to present.

From philosopher Ken Wilber’s forum:

It’s become quite a trend in the integral community to describe oneself as “spiritual but not religious.” In light of our shared integral spiritual vision, It certainly makes sense that folks like us would define ourselves in a way that is opposed to folks like them. Who’s them? Well you know, those mythic literalists with their fundamentalist religion. But, from another perspective, don’t you think it’s a bit awkward for us so-called integral types to describe what we are by disaffirming an opposite? And, what’s with all this us and them talk? Is that not a hallmark of absolutistic thinking? Doesn’t this reek of the same conformist cognition that fuels the fundamentalist fervor we’re so sure we have nothing in common with? Instead of so strongly insisting that we’re oh-so-spiritual–but oh-no religion!–what would it mean to be both spiritual and religious?

In this talk, Ken outlines two required steps for bringing religion and spirituality into greater accord. He’s guided by a vision of a fully functional and healthy religion—one which institutionalizes a care and concern for spiritual intelligence that grows in two directions: waking-up and growing-up. On the waking-up side of the street, he envisions the return of state-stage cultivation, accomplished by resurrecting and re-engaging the contemplative practices of the early christian fathers. And on the growing-up side, he calls for a busting of the mythic ceiling—a move that loosens and lubricates development along the spiral of spiritual intelligence, and which results in 2000-year-old myths being reinterpreted at higher levels. If these steps are acted in consort, Ken foresees religion as regaining a functional capacity to address human development through states and structures. And if not, folks like us—folks who deeply yearn for a post-mythic approach—will likely retain our status as “spiritual but not religious.”

Anna Prophetess in Luke really Asherah’s HighPriestess in the Temple

Rembrandt. Prophetess Anna overseas Jesus' Presentation in the Temple

Is Anna the Prophetess described in the Gospel of Luke really Asherah’s High Priestess serving underground and incognito in the Temple? The Bible says she lived in the Jerusalem temple full time, is of the tribe of Asher, is a psychic / prophetess and recognized baby Jesus instantly. She gives him her blessing.  Perhaps she was more than just an old woman practicing the spiritual discipline of fasting and praying. Here’s how Luke tells it…

Luke 2:36-38  “There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, [37] and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. [38] Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.”

Also intriguing (to me) is ancient Church tradition says Anna is the name of Jesus’ maternal grandmother. St. Anna is the mother of the Virgin Mary.
Even more intriguing is Anna Prophetess being the “daughter of Phanuel”.  Phanuel is a great archangel and is Hebrew for “the face of God.” Look what Wikipedia says about him (especially the last lines about taking on the antichrist).

Phanuel is the name given to a possible fourth Archangel in the Book of Enoch after Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel. He is also considered to be the ruler of the Ophanim

His name means “the face of God”. His was one of the four voices Enoch heard praising God.

This first is Michael, the merciful and long-suffering: and the second, who is set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of men, is Raphael: and the third, who is set over all the powers, is Gabriel: and the fourth, who is set over the repentance unto hope of those who inherit eternal life, is named Phanuel. (1 Enoch 40:9)

As an angel, Phanuel is reputedly a member of the four Angels of Presence. In 1st Enoch, he is also listed as an angel of exorcism (he is heard “expelling Satans”). Phanuel has also been linked with the Angel of Penance mentioned in the Shepherd of Hermas.

Some associate Phanuel with Uriel, however, the Book of Enoch clearly distinguishes the two. Uriel means ‘the Light of God’ while Phanuel has a different meaning. Phanuel’s duties include bearing up God’s throne, acting as a guardian angel to all whom have inherited salvation in Jesus Christ, minister of Truth and is an angel of judgement. Furthermore, as The Book of Enoch attests, Phanuel is the angel of repentance unto hope of those who have inherited eternal life. Piecing together the writings of Enoch and the Revelation of John, Phanuel, along with Michael, Gabriel and Raphael will all drink from the ‘winepress of the Wrath of God’, strengthening them in that day, the Day of the Lord. Phanuel’s arch-rival in the demonic hoards is Beliar, the Antichrist, the demon of lies. During the Battle of Armageddon, Phanuel will relinquish this rivalry, to fulfill the prophecy that Christ will destroy Beliar with the word of His mouth. It is often thought that Phanuel (if not with others) is the angelic voice in Revelation 11:15b saying “The world has now become the Kingdom of our LORD and His Christ. He shall reign forever and ever. Amen

The article doesn’t mention Phanuel is also known as “demon’s bane”. A google images search for Phanuel yields some nice angel images.

Easter & the Anointing at Bethany, Margaret Starbird

Passover begins tonight and we are thinking of Holy Week events 2000 years ago when Mary Magdalene and Yeshua were alive and in Jerusalem for Passover, the ominous clouds rising.

Margaret Starbird writes:

As some of you know, I believe that the “Passion of the Christ” begins –not at the Last Supper and the Agony at Gethsemane– but with the anointing at the banquet at Bethany that occurred shortly before the Passover.

All four canonical Gospels include the story of the anointing of Jesus by a woman. Only Luke removes this event from Holy Week, placing it early in Jesus’ ministry and calling the woman “a sinner from the town.”
The other Gospels agree that the event occurred during Holy Week and at a banquet held in Bethany. John’s Gospel explicitly states that Lazarus reclined with Jesus at the table, while Martha served the dinner. It was their sister Mary who anointed the Lord with precious nard and “wiped her tears from his feet with her hair”–a detail mentioned also in Luke’s version. It’s clear that John was trying to correct Luke’s spurious version of the story, reclaiming the reputation of Mary, the woman with the Alabaster Jar. And her fragrance filled the house! (John 12:3).

This line links the anointing to the Song of Songs (Solomon) where the nard of the Bride wafts about the Bridegroom at his banquet table (SoS 1:12). And “The king is captivated by your tresses.”

John’s Gospel goes on to record that Judas complained of the wasted value of the perfume, which could have been sold and the money used to feed the poor, to which Jesus responds, “Let her keep it for the day of my burial….” This is significant because in John’s Gospel, Mary Magdalene goes alone to the tomb on Easter morning to mourn the death of her Beloved and finds him resurrected in the garden.

The importance of this anointing of Jesus by a woman is huge! “Messiah” means “anointed One.” She was proclaiming him King and Messiah of Israel in his role as the “Sacrificed Bride-groom King.”

The anointing of the “Bridegroom King” was an ancient rite in the Middle East, in the fertility cults of the “Sacred Marriage” (hieros gamos). The royal Bride represented the land and people and was a surrogate of the Goddess. She anointed her Bride-groom in a nuptial rite, a prefiguring of the anointing by the feminine during coitus. She then led him to the Bridal Chamber to consummate their union. The joy and blessing from their love-making spread out into the crops and herds and into the people of the land — and everyone lived happily ever after — just like Cinderella!

Actually, NOT. Shortly after the celebration of the hieros gamos, the Bridegroom King was arrested. He was tortured, mutilated, executed and entombed at the Spring equinox. Then, on the third day, his Bride went to the tomb to mourn his death and discovered him resurrected in the garden! This ancient festival in the cults of numerous god-goddess couples in Near and Middle East was a celebration of the eternal return of LIFE in the springtime… and from their sacred RE-union, all blessings flowed–as in the “nuptials of the Lamb” in Revelation 21-22.

“Easter” is merely a corruption of the name of the Goddess Oestare, derived from Ishtar/Astarte. Christianity may have “new wine in new wineskins”—but the “Passion Story” is that of the eternal “Bride and Bridegroom” and beings with the anointing of the King: “She has done me a favor… She has anointed me in advance for my burial, and wherever this gospel is preached, what she has done will be told in memory of her” (Mark 14:7-8).

Mary Magdalene is clearly styled as the Bride of the Easter Mysteries. Picture her anointing Jesus at the banquet, following him as he carries the cross, standing with him as he endures the tortures of crucifixion, anointing his body for burial and returning at first light on Sunday to mourn him.
Before celebrating the liturgies for Palm Sunday, please contemplate the mysteries of the “Sacred Marriage” celebrated in the Song of Songs and the Anointing at Bethany (John 12:8).

Martin Luther believed in Magdalene Jesus Marriage

Here is an exchange between Wynn Manners and Margaret Starbird discussing the very intriguing fact that the great Martin Luther believed Mary Magdalene and Jesus were married.

Poet-Mystic Wynn Manners writes:

…we have a statement attributed to Luther by John Schlaginhaufen. It’s from
a section of the Works called Table Talk and collects freewheeling conversations
Luther enjoyed with friends.

“Christ was an adulterer for the first time with the woman at the well, for it
was said, `Nobody knows what he’s doing with her’ [John 4:27]. Again, [he was an
adulterer] with Magdalene, and still again with the adulterous woman in John 8
[:2-11], whom he let off so easily. So the good Christ had to become an
adulterer before he died.”

Christus adulter. Christus ist am ersten ein ebrecher worden Joh. 4, bei dem
brunn cum muliere, quia illi dicebant: Nemo significat, quid facit cum ea? Item
cum Magdalena, item cum adultera Joan. 8, die er so leicht davon lies. Also mus

Q: After reading “The DaVinci Code” by Dan Brown, I was looking for background
material for the claims made in that book, especially concerning the “hidden
messages” in Da Vinci’s artwork and also the author’s apparent view of the early
Christian church. I have been reading a book entitled “Secrets of the Code”
edited by Dan Burstein, which covers some of this subject matter. At least twice
in this book the claim is made, without any footnote or citation, that Martin
Luther believed that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married to each other. Is
there anything that Martin Luther wrote or said to support this claim?

A: In 1515, in his “First Psalm Lectures,” when Luther still applied allegorical
interpretation to his reading of the Scriptures, he made a puzzling statement:

“…Mary Magdalene… came beforehand at the dawn and with untimely haste and
cried and called for her husband much more wonderfully in spirit than in body.
But I think that she alone might easily explain the Song of Songs” (“Luther’s
Works, American Edition, Volume 11, page 510).

Luther was evidently interpreting the Song of Songs (Song of Solomon) in a
traditional way: the bridegroom is the Lord and the bride is his church. Mary’s
love for Jesus, her zeal to finish preparing his body for burial, and her haste
to get out to the tomb on Easter morning were like the ardor of the bride in the
Song of Songs.

Keep in mind that Luther was lecturing on the Psalms for the first time, that
what he meant is not very clear, that he did not in later life indicate he
believed that Jesus was literally married to anyone, that his words are not
something he wrote with care but something he said in lecture, and that
professors do not always express their thoughts clearly.

Yup… he said Jesus was an adulterer, 3 times over (perhaps trying to
rationalize some adulterous relationships of his own?)!

i can’t help but laugh at the obvious desire on the part of most of the people
in the lengthy discussing of these two quotes from Martin Luther, to be
“proving” that he didn’t *mean* what those quotations seem to me to be rather
obviously conveying!

*

At another website:

http://beggarsallreformation.blogspot.com/2005/12/luther-said-christ-committed-a\
dultery.html

The first is a comment on Psalm 119:145 in which Luther interprets Mary
Magdalene’s actions at the tomb of Christ as an example of loving devotion. Mary
“came beforehand at the dawn and with untimely haste and cried and called for
her betrothed [sponsum] much more wonderfully in spirit than in the body. But I
think that she alone might easily explain the Song of Songs.”

Luther’s Works: American Edition (LW) unfortunately mistranslates sponsum as
“husband.” In Luther’s medieval monastic context, the word meant something
different. The verb spondeo means “to pledge oneself to” or “to promise oneself
to someone,” as in “to pledge in the vow of marriage.” The male form of the noun
is “fiance” and the female form is “bride.”

The full context of Luther’s remark indicates that he was thinking
allegorically. Influenced by mainstream allegorical interpretations of the Song
of Songs, Luther viewed Mary as the prototypical disciple (a celibate nun?), the
first “bride of Christ,” who had made her vow of unconditional love and
obedience to her sponsum (“betrothed,” “groom”). Even today Roman Catholic nuns
wear a ring to symbolize their betrothal to Christ. On another occasion Luther
argued that all Christians are “brides of Christ” (LW 28:48). He certainly did
not think Jesus and Mary were actually husband and wife. Several unambiguous
statements in his writings clearly indicate that he held the traditional view
that Jesus, like Paul, was celibate and chaste.

*

Whether the word “sponsum” translates as “betrothed,” “fiance” or “groom” — i
think the traditional theologically-minded are just trying to wriggle out of
something they, themselves, are biased against, because it upsets their
*theology*.

Yeshua & Magdalene did *not* live their lives to be conforming to the
expectational strait-jacket of *future* Christian theology.

i would interpret the quotation as indicating that Martin Luther — at that
point (probably) believed they were the equivalent of “married” (groom
definitely implies that & i think pointing to the Song of Songs, via the later
*Christian* interpretation is obfuscation & misdirection).

It seems highly probable that Yeshua & Miriam may well have shared the Song of
Songs together, as lovers — it certainly would’ve enhanced the meaningfulness
of their espousal unto each other (assuming a *copy* would’ve been available for
them, privately) — but i seriously doubt it meant the same to *them* — if they
shared it — than the theological overlay of later generations of the
sexually-uptight ecclesiasticals!

Can we possibly imagine the ludicrousness of Yeshua reading the Bridegroom parts
of the Song of Songs & Peter reading the Bride parts to each other?! i *know*
that Paul says that in Christ there is no male nor female — but let’s be
realistic here!

*Peter* saying to Yeshua:

“Your lips cover me with kisses;
your love is better than wine.
There is a fragrance about you;
the sound of your name recalls it.
No woman could keep from
loving you.”

And then Andrew is saying, later,

“How handsome you are, my dearest;
how you delight me!
The green grass will be our bed;
the cedars will be the beams of our house,
and the cypress trees the ceiling.
I am only a wild flower in Sharon,
a lily in a mountain valley.”

& then Christ says to Peter:

“The curve of your thighs
is like the work of an artist.
A bowl is there,
that never runs out of spiced wine.
A sheaf of wheat is there,
surrounded by lilies.
Your breasts are like twin deer,
like two gazelles.
<…>
Your braided hair shines like
the finest satin;
its beauty could hold a king captive.”

Yeah… RIGHT!!!

And the women ask:

“Who is coming from the desert,
arm in arm with her lover?”

Oh, it is Peter! — wearing her veil, while walking arm-in-arm with her Lord!

i don’t doubt, for a moment, that the *Song of Songs* could very well describe
Yeshua’s & Mary Magdalene’s relationship — but i sure can’t see Jesus standing
in front of the congregation of *any* Christian Church whose services i’ve ever
attended — reading the male parts & all the married men in that congregation
reading the *woman’s* parts!

At least the pious fantasy of the Church Fathers kept it in the Biblical
anthology for us & that is a grace!

i *do* agree with Martin Luther, however, that “…that she alone might easily
explain the Song of Songs”. Indeed, i think that a *real* Mary Magdalene could
easily explain the Song of Songs with *far* more depth-of-perception than all
these theologians, priests & preachers over the past nigh-unto 2,000 years!

Finally, if anyone, here, is interested in reading however much of Martin
Luther’s “Table Talk” — it can be accessed here:

Our favorite Scholar-and-Author Margaret Starbird responded to the above thusly:

Thanks for sharing the article about Martin Luther's comments
about Mary Magdalene.

I cited the "Table Talks" quote from Martin Luther's informal
conversations in my [book] "Mary Magdalene, Bride in Exile" (2005)

My “take” on Martin Luther’s comments from “Table Talk”:

I think Martin Luther was (maybe unconsciously?) aware of the repressed
tradition of Cathars/ Albigensians that Mary Magdalene was the
SAME as the woman at the well AND the woman found in adultery
whom Jesus set free from her tormentors. Clearly the earlier tradition
had become convoluted over time, resulting in his confused version
of what the 13c. heretics believed was an intimate union. These
ideas floated around in the oral tradition, rarely written...
The French chronicler of the crusade against the Cathars (Pier vaux
de Cerney) recorded that Cathars and residents of the village Beziers
were incinerated when the church where they sought refuge from the
armies of the Pope and French King. He attributed this action, which
occurred on the feast day of Mary Magdalene, 22 July, 1209, to
"divine providence" in just retribution for their "slanderous assertion
that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were lovers.
