Actually, they portray her that way to symbolize divine loveliness. A priestess was thought to reflect her goddess’ surreal, supernatural beauty.

David had no intention of giving up the priestess he had “acquired”, but he knew his method might have offended the feminine Deity.  So in Psalm 51, David begs God-the-Creator to intercede on his behalf to keep Ruach from deserting him.
