Netzach is the seventh Sephirah on the Tree of Life. Netzach means “Victory” in the Hebrew language. It is also the last Sephirah on the right-handed pillar or the Pillar of Mercy. This level of the Tree of Life is directly connected to human consciousness and experience. Netzach is the home of human emotions, instincts and, desires. Netzach represents the animal or lower mind of humanity. It is also where one’s creative drive and inspiration comes from. Netzach is of a fiery (masculine) deposition opposing the watery (feminine) Sephirah of Hod. Once Again we see the concept of polarity coming in play in the formation of the Tree of Life. One cannot afford to dismiss this divine law for it is at the very heart of the divine plan of the multiverse.

The magical uses of Netzach lie in the sphere of emotions. Rites and spells of Love become especially powerful when Netzach is invoked. Other uses would be enhancing and balancing one emotions to a level that is more conducive to ones spiritual needs.

The Archangel of Netzach is Haniel. Haniel is considered to be the patron of artistic endeavor. Haniel leads the Angelic order of the Elohim. Elohim means gods/goddesses in Hebrew, but they are sometimes referred to as “the Principles.” The duty of the Elohim is to provide the necessary stimulus for humanity to be made conscious of the nature of the Divine on a personal level. It is said that they will engage the mind of the initiate in the Great Work.

Hod is the eighth Sephirah on the Tree of Life. Hod is the last Sephirah on the Pillar of Severity and its energy is just opposite to that of Netzach. Hod is the sphere of intellect and science and teaching are it’s children. All activities of the intellect find their start here, for this is the realm of logic. Hod is also the home of ceremonial magick where as Netzach is the domain of more instinctual magicks like shamanism and nature magick.

The Angelic order of Hod is the Beni Elohim. The Hebrew translation for the Beni Elohim is the “Sons of the gods” or “Children of the gods.” The Beni Elohim in the bible; are simply called Angels and little else is said of their use or purpose in the divine order of being. However in Qabalistic sources we discover their true purpose. They are units of divine consciousness that provides intelligence and awareness of the divine to every individual. They are the force and form of all the divine images of the gods and goddesses and allow us to perceive divine in its many aspects. They literally take on the shapes of Gods and the Goddesses so that we can perceive and understand the Divine. The Archangel ruler of Hod and leader of the Beni Elohim is Michael. Michael means “Perfect of God” or “He who like unto God.” Michael cosmic task is to help reveal the great complexity of the universe.
